When the smoke clears.....

We've had major forrest fires in So Oregon.  Most caused by lightning strikes.  The smoke is not expected to clear for weeks as it looks now.  What WILL it look like - when the smoke clears? Have you ever been in a season where you knew that God was working deep, and strong inside the core of who you are - but you can't really see what He's up to?   You just know that something is happening...   You are aware of the circumstances that are providing this opportunity of change... You know that it's in His control, not yours... In the past you've even prayed that He would clean away the stuff that keeps His image from being seen clearly in your life.... Holy fire... The Native Americans used to set fires on purpose to burn away low growth and slash, that if allowed to stay in the forest would be fuel that would eventually cause extreme damage to the forrest. These are a few of my favorite things...

I am thankful that I have a thoughtful, generous, caring husband who has not traded me in - even with all the weird stuff he's had to go through with me. In the middle of feeling pretty yucky this weekend, he managed to help me celebrate my birthday with such a sense of caring. I am thankful for a friend who would call from Turkey to say happy birthday and say out loud his family's love on my behalf. (Even though he reminded me that it would cost hundreds of dollars and I only had 45 seconds to talk to him!!!) My heart felt - hugged. I am thankful for the look on a person's face who has really heard from heaven! The joy, the awe, the pureness in the eyes of one who is so excited about what God is doing. Oh my stars... I am thankful for the sound of the song of the Lord coming from His kids. Hearing the church family sing praise is my favorite instrument. I love having kids, but I really love having grandkids. I am grateful for the hearts of our kids letting us into...

The Key...

You probably know by now that I am not a fashion icon.  I accessorize mostly by accident.  There have been MANY moments when I discover, "Oh look!  This actually GOES with that!!!"  At the last church we pastored someone actually told me they were so glad to be at a church where people didn't want to look like the pastor's wife!  I just looked at her and started laughing - she looked at me and started sputtering, because she had really meant it as a compliment - she was glad people didn't have to look perfect (at that time wearing specially folded scarves) to be accepted. I tend toward accessories that make me smile, make me think and just mean something to me -  in my home, in my office and on my person. One accessory that I have been drawn to is almost anything that has a key on it.  Yesterday, I had opporunity to explain this draw to a group of wonderful women.  Looking at a key stirs my faith. It reminds me that Jesus WON the keys to death...
